- A Mirror, Not a MasterAlmost every way of looking at your life is built around the future, which puts a boss where a mirror should be. This is the other way.
- Blink. Breathe. Press.Close your eyes. Take one breath. Feel your feet on the ground. One second. Anywhere. For life.
- Build the SliceBuild one thing all the way through — every layer, ugly, working — before you build anything wide. Breadth first makes every problem arrive at once.
- Count in PrivateIt's fine to remember how many times something happened. It is not fine to show yourself a number that means you're behind.
- Less Is the PointAnything built to be close to a person has to refuse the things that make products successful: speed, scores, notifications, novelty, scale.
- Not Repair — BirthOne reading of your hard places says you broke and must be repaired. Another says: what looks like a shadow is a capacity not yet born.
- One GestureAnything you want to keep doing has to be finishable in one gesture. The moment finishing takes two things, it will quietly stop.
- Only True When TrueA page, a system, or a person should never claim something happened until it has. Past-tense claims are only visible when they're true.
- Remember Them. Remember Yourself.Every way of keeping up with the people you love becomes a ledger of how you've failed them. Here, reaching is the whole point.
- The Hoop Doesn’t HurryWhen something feels significant, the reflex is to make more. The move is to slow down, stay small, and trust what accumulates.
- The Note It Doesn’t PlayThe most honest way to understand something is to find what it keeps reaching toward without ever stating — and put that underneath it.
- The Two ClocksMaking something and living with it run on two different clocks, and the mistake is letting the fast one set the pace for the slow one.
- Wrong Time, Not Wrong PageWhen something you made — or read, or tried — doesn't land, the honest reading is usually 'wrong time', not 'wrong thing'. Leave it. Come back.
