Why this is hard
Dzogchen means 'Great Perfection' — 'dzogpa,' complete, and 'chenpo,' great. Practiced within the Nyingma school and within Bön, it's described as the innermost teaching, pointing at rigpa: pure, aware presence the tradition says underlies ordinary experience without being made or improved. Two approaches are named — trekchö, cutting through to what's already simple, and tögal, working directly with spontaneous appearance.
