Why this is hard
There are three degrees — Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, Master Mason — and the imagery throughout is stonemasonry: rough stone, working tools, a building under way.

Because you work on the thing you're standing in.
You stop asking how far along you are, and ask what needs doing.

The tools are ordinary.
Because a gauge, a square, a level already hold the lesson.

The practice
Take one tool you already use every day and ask what it would teach if you took it as an instruction.
Much of the ritual stays closed. This is what the craft itself makes public.
