Why this is hard
Anatta, from the Pali, means 'not-self' — the teaching that nothing found in experience qualifies as a permanent, independent self. The tradition names five khandhas that make up a person: form, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness. Each one is impermanent, arising and passing, and the tradition holds that mistaking any of them for a fixed 'I' is the root of dukkha, suffering.
