Building Connection

A practice card

Not the same as having people around. Connection tends to grow from small, repeated moves — reaching out first, following up, making plans — more than from proximity alone.

When
When people are nearby, or even friendly, but the relationship never seems to move past that point.
What's actually happening
A relationship rarely deepens on its own just from repeated contact; it tends to need at least one person making a small, active move — a message, an invitation, a follow-up. Waiting for the other person to initiate is a common reason contact stays shallow, since both sides can be waiting for the same thing at once.
What to change
Reach out first, even briefly, instead of waiting to see if they will.
Suggest an actual plan, a time and place, rather than a vague 'we should hang out.'
After a good conversation, send one follow-up message rather than letting it end there.
Set a rough rhythm for staying in touch with one person, rather than leaving it to chance.
Reach out even when it feels like too much or too little time has passed to explain.

Pick one
Five at once is how these lists fail. Tap a number — the ones up and to the left give the most for the least.
What to expect
This is built move by move, not by one long conversation. Pick one relationship and make the first move, on purpose, at least once over the next two weeks.
choose one, and the fortnight starts
