Seneca's nightly questions, and the pardon he ended them with. The shortest complete review anyone wrote down.
When
Lying down, lights out, before sleep.
How
Go back over the whole day, once. Ask what bad habit you cured today. Ask what fault you checked. Ask in what respect you are better. Then do what Seneca did, and pardon yourself: this time, forgiven. Sleep from there, with no list for the morning.
Try it
Nothing you type is kept. It floats off the page.
Where it comes from
Seneca, On Anger 3.36, borrowing the questions from Quintus Sextius. First century. Marcus Aurelius kept the morning half: a rehearsal of the day before it began.
A pardon, not a score.
Seneca said he slept better for it, and gave no other reason.
