Mahamudra: The Great Seal

A practice card

A gentle taste of Mahamudra, the Kagyu tradition’s path of resting the mind naturally in its own nature, held as the tradition’s own.

When
When your mind is busy, and you want to let it settle on its own, without effort.
How
Sit, and let your mind rest exactly as it is — thoughts coming and going don’t need to be managed. Don’t grasp at a thought, and don’t push it away; let each one arise and dissolve on its own. There’s nothing to achieve here, only a natural settling, the way water clears when left undisturbed.
Try it
Nothing you type is kept. It floats off the page.
Traditionally received
In the Kagyu tradition, Mahamudra is traditionally received from a qualified teacher, often through pointing-out instruction similar to Dzogchen’s. This page offers only a gentle taste of resting the mind — not that transmission.
Nothing to fix. Let the mind settle.
As the tradition teaches it, the seal is not stamped on from outside: it is the mind’s own nature.
