Mindful Eating

A practice card

Eating one small bite slowly and on purpose, noticing it with every sense instead of on autopilot.

When
When you're eating without tasting, or want to slow down and actually notice a meal.
Follow one bite
1 how it looks
1 how it smells
1 its texture
1 how it tastes
Take one bite. Chew slowly. Notice each sense before you swallow.
Why it works
Most eating happens on autopilot, with attention somewhere else entirely. Slowing down for a single bite, really looking, smelling, feeling the texture, tasting, tends to make food more noticeable, and sometimes more satisfying, than eating the same thing quickly.
One bite, fully noticed.
Try this with the next bite of any meal — it doesn't need to be special food.

This is a teaching, not treatment. If you’re struggling, a doctor or therapist can help. If you’re in danger right now, call your local emergency number or a crisis line (in the US, call or text 988).
