Noticing What's Here

A practice card

One plain mindfulness exercise: resting attention on something ordinary that's happening right now.

When
When you want a few minutes of plain attention, without a technique to learn first.
How
Pick one ordinary thing happening now — your breath, a sound, the weight of your body in the chair — and rest your attention there. When your mind wanders, and it will, just notice that, then return to the same thing.
Try it
Nothing you type is kept. It floats off the page.
Wandering is expected
Noticing that your mind has wandered, and returning, is the practice itself — not a sign you're doing it wrong.
One thing, noticed again and again.

This is a teaching, not treatment. If you’re struggling, a doctor or therapist can help. If you’re in danger right now, call your local emergency number or a crisis line (in the US, call or text 988).
