Seven centres along the spine, as they are most often taught today — read from the ground up, the way the tradition says the energy climbs.

How to read it
One channel runs straight up the spine: sushumna. Two more wind around it and cross at every centre — ida, cool and lunar, and pingala, warm and solar. They meet for the last time at the brow.

Root

Muladhara · “root support”

I am here.
The ground floor: safety, the body, the right to exist at all. When it is steady you stop bracing. Everything above is built on whether this one feels held.

Sacral

Svadhisthana · “one’s own seat”

I feel.
Pleasure, desire, the capacity to be moved. Water takes the shape of what holds it — this is the centre of flow rather than force.

Solar plexus

Manipura · “city of jewels”

I can.
Will, digestion, the fire that turns intention into action. Where you decide — and where you feel it in your stomach when you don’t.

Heart

Anahata · “unstruck”

I love.
Named for a sound made without anything striking anything. Three centres below it, three above: where the personal and the more-than-personal meet.

Throat

Vishuddha · “purification”

I speak.
Expression, and the listening that comes before it. Its element is space — the room a true sentence needs around it.

Brow

Ajna · “command”

I see.
Perception past the eyes. Ida and pingala end here, two currents resolved into one — which is why it is drawn with two petals.

Crown

Sahasrara · “thousand-petalled”

I am.
In the older texts not one of the six but what all six open into. It has no seed sound. It is what is left when the sound stops.

The seven-centre system and its rainbow are a modern synthesis — older tantric texts give other counts and other colours.
