An icebreaker
A Bengali swami published a 1894 book arguing that history moves in cycles of roughly 24,000 years, driven by the sun orbiting a companion star, and that humanity is now rising rather than declining. Modern astronomy measures that cycle differently.
He argued that the equinoxes' precession traces the sun's own roughly 24,000-year orbit around a companion star, and used that figure to recalculate the yuga ages, concluding humanity had already risen out of the lowest age.
In his 1946 autobiography, he described this as his teacher's own reasoned correction of the traditional yuga calendar, presenting the 24,000-year cycle as a serious contribution rather than settled science.
In his 2018 biography of Yogananda, he traced the teacher-student relationship with Yukteshwar and the book's role in it, presenting the 1894 work as a document of that lineage rather than treating its cosmology as established fact.
